About the Siberian Husky Breed

Siberian Huskies are medium sized working dogs that excel at pulling sleds in the Artic. In fact, one
brave Husky named Balto helped save the town of Nome, Alaska from diphtheria by leading his pack
through the many cold miles in a blizzard to deliver the medicine.
Huskies also make great family pets! They do have to be trained young and consistently as they tend
to be strong-willed and independent. They do need lots of exercise, so daily walks and a place to run
are recommended.
Huskies have a soft, thick coat which keeps them warm in the winter and reflects heat to keep them
cool in the summer. They do need a weekly brushing to keep their coat looking nice. The most common coat color is black & white, but there are also red & white and pure white Huskies as well. Huskies may have icy blue, dark blue, brown or amber colored eyes. Sometimes one eye is blue and the other one is brown.
Husky females stand approx. 20-22 inches high at the withers and weigh 35-50 lbs. when full grown.
Males are slightly larger, standing at 21-23 inches high and weighing 45-60 lbs. The average life span
of a well-cared for Husky is 12-15 years.
