At Maple Shade Farms we take pride in our Australian Shepherds. Our country setting provides a wonderful environment for raising quality dogs that can spend a lot of time roaming our woodlands and meadows. We started with foundation stock focused in herding on our dairy farm. As time passed, we included show lines. We have wanted to offer the more traditional Irish spotting seen in tri-colored show lines, along with the thicker coats that show lines have. While adding these characteristics, we also have worked to maintain some of the traditional herding instincts that Aussies are known for. Another focus for us at Maple Shade Farms is breeding for size. Our males will average 60-75 pounds, while our females will be between 45-60 pounds. This is somewhat larger than traditional AKC standards, however we always have a few dogs that fall well within the standard weights. You may see advertisements for dogs called teacup, toy, or miniature Australian Shepherds. Australian Shepherd breeders don't recognize these dogs as true Australian Shepherds. We have been breeding Aussies for 20 years with a focus on dogs that will be suitable on the farm or in the suburbs. We have not engaged in showing our dogs or entering them in trials.
