Mini dachshunds are bold little characters packed into a surprisingly small package. Originally bred in Germany several hundred years ago to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals, their long, low bodies and fearless attitudes were purpose-built for digging into tight spaces. Typically weighing 11 pounds or under and standing just 5 to 6 inches tall, these pint-sized pups come in a delightful range of colors—red, black and tan, chocolate, cream, and even dapple patterns. Their coats can be smooth, longhaired, or wirehaired, each with its own charm. Temperament-wise, they’re curious, clever, and fiercely loyal, with a stubborn streak that keeps life interesting. Key characteristics include a deep chest, paddle-shaped paws, and an unmistakable confidence that far outweighs their size. Whether they're burrowing under blankets or strutting down the sidewalk like they own it, mini dachshunds have a way of filling your whole heart with their oversized personality.
