History: Also referred to as the "Ruby Labrador," the Fox Red Labrador Retriever is a color variation from the traditional Yellow Labrador Retriever. While their coats are called "red," these dogs are actually a very dark shade of yellow. No one is quite sure when the first Fox Red Labrador came about, but it has always been much more uncommon than other Labs. As a result, these dogs are typically more expensive than other Labradors. Due to their darker coat color, there is some controversy over whether or not the Fox Red Labrador is a purebred Lab. However, the American Kennel Club (AKC) recognizes the Fox Red Lab's coat color as part of the breed standard for Labrador Retrievers.

Temperament: Like all Labrador Retrievers, the Fox Red Lab is a happy, energetic, loving dog whose loyalty to its family is second to none. These dogs are very gentle and patient, making them a great choice for families with children. Even as adults, Fox Red Labs are active pups that love to play. That said, it's important that these dogs get plenty of daily exercise, both mental and physical. When given enough exercise, though, Fox Red Labs are fairly calm indoors and are perfectly content relaxing with their owners. Training these dogs is on the easier side, as Fox Red Labradors are smart and love to please. All in all, the Fox Red Labrador Retriever is a perfect companion for all kinds of different people and homes.
