History: A smaller version of the standard Goldendoodle, the Mini Goldendoodle is a hybrid of the Golden Retriever and either the Miniature or Toy Poodle. These dogs originated in the United States and Australia sometime during the 1990s. During this time, people began to breed more Poodle mixes due to the popularity of the Cockapoo and the Labradoodle, two of the first Poodle mix breeds. The Goldendoodle and its miniature version were two of the resulting breeds, and they quickly became a crowd favorite. There are even dog clubs that were created specifically for the Goldendoodle, like the Goldendoodle Association of North America (GANA). The Mini Goldendoodle is also recognized by the Dog Registry of America (DRA).

Temperament: Mini Goldendoodles are non-aggressive, eager to please, and friendly, making them great companions. They play well with children and other animals, so they're a great choice for families. Mini Goldendoodles are the type of dog that loves having a job to do, which is part of the reason that they make such good service dogs. They're also highly intelligent and can catch onto commands and tricks easily with little repetition. The Miniature Goldendoodle is an active breed that requires a good bit of exercise in order to keep their energy level at bay. Without sufficient mental and physical stimulation, these dogs can exhibit unwanted behaviors out of boredom. With the right amount of exercise, though, Mini Goldendoodles make terrific companions for families, couples, and singles alike.
