History: The Pomchi, sometimes called the Chiranian, is a mix between a purebred Pomeranian and a purebred Chihuahua. It is believed that the Pomchi was developed to be a small companion dog with a big personality, and that's exactly what it is. Unfortunately, there is no documentation of when or where the Pomchi originated, which is the case for most designer dog breeds. However, a lot can be said about the Pomchi's origins by looking at the histories of the Pomeranian and the Chihuahua. Since it isn't a purebred dog, the Pomchi is not eligible for American Kennel Club (AKC) registration. The breed is, however, a number of clubs for hybrid and designer dogs.

Temperament: The Pomchi is a tiny dog with a big personality. These pups are loving and affectionate with their family, but may have a tendency to be suspicious around strangers. However, once they know they can trust someone, Pomchis are quite friendly. Given the intelligence of the Pomeranian and the Chihuahua, Pomchis are smart dogs that are highly trainable. They're eager to please, but it's possible for a Pomchi to exhibit some stubbornness from time to time. These dogs respond best to positive reinforcement techniques during training, like treats and praise.
