History: The Westiepoo, also called the Westiedoodle, is a designer dog breed that is a hybrid of the West Highland White Terrier and the Poodle (usually Toy or Miniature). The combination of these two intelligent, low-shedding breeds results in a compact, hypoallergenic pup that makes an excellent companion. No one knows for sure when the first Westiepoo appeared, but it was likely sometime during the “Designer Dog Craze” of the 1990s in the United States. While the American Kennel Club (AKC) does not recognize designer dogs, there are some smaller dog clubs that recognize the Westiepoo, such as the Dog Registry of America (DRA) and the International Designer Canine Registry (IDCR).

Temperament: Westiepoos are smart, friendly, and affectionate. These social dogs love to be around people and can easily bond with just about anyone. The Westiepoo is a family-friendly dog that does well with children and other pets, and it’s a great choice for first-time dog owners. Due to their intelligence, training a Westiepoo is typically on the easier side. Like many dogs, Westiepoos respond best to positive reinforcement and reward-based training. In terms of activity level, the Westiepoo falls somewhere in the middle. While they’re not overly energetic, Westiepoos still require daily exercise and should be walked regularly.
