Originally bred to hunt vermin and capture prey, this rare breed nearly became extinct after the American Civil War before being revived by a dedicated farmer and his granddaughter. The Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog was recognized by the Animal Research Foundation in 1986, though not yet by the American Kennel Club.
