Originating from the ancient Celtic tribes that migrated to Wales around 1200 BC, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi takes its name from Cardiganshire, a historic Welsh county. One of the oldest herding breeds in Britain, the Cardigan was bred to drive cattle, its low stature helping it avoid kicks from livestock. Over the centuries, they’ve also served as guard dogs and hunting companions. The breed’s intelligence, stamina, and loyalty made it an essential working partner for Welsh farmers.
