Meet Lady Mae Bassets

About Lady Mae Bassets If there's one thing I've learned over the years, it's that dogs don't care about titles, trophies, or how many litters you've raised. They care that you show up. You show up when a nervous first-time mom needs reassurance. You show up at two o'clock in the morning because a puppy needs help nursing. You show up when a family calls months later because they're worried about something their puppy did that day. And you keep showing up because that's what they deserve. That's what Lady Mae Bassets was built on. My love for the Basset Hound didn't begin with the idea of becoming a breeder. It began with falling in love with a breed unlike any other. They're stubborn enough to make you laugh, gentle enough to trust with children, and loyal in a quiet way that earns a permanent place in your heart. Once you've shared your life with a good Basset, it's hard to imagine life without one. When I made the decision to begin breeding, I made another promise to myself. I would never breed simply because I could. Every litter would have a purpose. Every pairing would be carefully considered. Every puppy would be raised with the same care and attention I'd want if I were the one bringing that puppy home. That promise still guides every decision we make today. As a professional dog whelper, I've been fortunate to help bring countless puppies into the world, many of them not even my own. Those long nights have taught me lessons no book ever could. They taught me patience. They taught me humility. Most of all, they taught me that every life matters, whether it's the first puppy born or the last. That experience follows me into every Lady Mae litter. Our puppies aren't raised in a kennel. They're raised as part of our everyday life. From the moment they're born, they're handled with intention, introduced to new experiences as they're ready, and encouraged to grow into confident, curious little dogs. We don't rush development, and we don't believe every puppy should fit the same mold. Each one has its own personality, and one of my favorite parts of breeding is watching those personalities slowly unfold. Health, temperament, and sound structure will always matter more to me than trends or convenience. Those are the qualities that determine whether a dog becomes not only beautiful, but capable of living a long, happy life with the family who loves them. Lady Mae Bassets isn't about producing puppies. It's about preserving a breed I deeply respect, supporting the families who trust us, and doing my small part to ensure that generations from now, people will still know the joy of sharing their lives with an exceptional Basset Hound. If you've found your way here, I hope you'll see that this isn't simply what I do. It's the life I've chosen, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
