I am a retired teacher who first learned about Scotties at age 7. My mother passed and a friend of my dad's thought a Scottie pup would be a great companion for me. She was, until she passed on a year later. Then, the McDowells gave me a 2nd pup, Babbie, whom I took to shows. She won Best of Show for my State and lived a happy 18 years! I trained her, groomed her, loved her, and dreamed of someday having my own Scottie Kennel. Over the years, we had a Scottie or two here and there. But, we never actually thought of breeding. Then, in January, 2024, I began looking in earnest and found a wonderful little girl whom I named Bonnie-Lassie. In July, 2025, we bought a little guy, whom my husband named, 'Angus Happy Man McGregor'. My dream was coming true. In March, 2026, Bonnie produced her first litter, 2 pups, both girls, one white and one black. Unfortunately, when her next heat came around, Angus got lose and we now have what I call the "October Surprise" - which really was a July 7th to September 3rd surprise. Well, anyway, Bonnie did a fine job again. But, THIS TIME she produced 6 pups, 3 males, one black and 2 wheatens, and 3 females, black. Yes, I know, this is supposed to be about me. Well, we almost lost Bonnie. The pregnancies were just too close. I ended-up hand feeding her for most of the last three months. She went down to skin, hair, and bones, but never once neglected her pups. She is the greatest mom. Three great Vets helped her through it all, and she is now gaining weight and is her old self again. Guess, if anything, let me say, I love breeding Scotties. I love Bonnie. I love Angus, and I love the puppies. But, Bonnie must get a good rest before she has anymore. In the process of helping bring the first two litters to daylight, I have learned a lot. The education has been worthwhile and has stretched both my mind and my capacities. It's been good. I am going to 'Stay in the Game' as long as I can. I just love Scotties. They're special. I think everyone should own one!
