This handsome AKC male comes from health tested parents and a thoughtfully developed pedigree that places an emphasis on health, structure, temperament, and preserving quality bloodlines. His mother's pedigree brings together internationally sourced bloodlines, including more than four generations of historical relatives with documented OFA health evaluations. That's something worth looking beyond the puppy's appearance to appreciate. ā¤ļø Why does his family history matter? At House of Pugatti, we believe responsible breeding means looking at more than just the two dogs being paired. We consider the health history and structural qualities carried throughout the generations. Some of the important health evaluations represented in his maternal family history include: • OFA Patella Evaluations: Patellar luxation, commonly called luxating kneecaps, is a concern in small breeds like pugs. OFA evaluations help identify dogs with normal kneecap positioning and function, reducing the likelihood of perpetuating this inherited orthopedic issue. • OFA Cardiac Evaluations: Heart evaluations help identify certain congenital and acquired heart abnormalities. Healthy cardiac history is another important consideration when making breeding decisions. • OFA Hip Evaluations: Hip evaluations assess joint structure and help identify hip dysplasia, an orthopedic condition that can contribute to discomfort, arthritis, and mobility problems. • OFA Eye Evaluations (CAER): Eye examinations screen for inherited and other ocular conditions that can affect vision and long-term eye health. These evaluations serve different purposes, but together they provide valuable information when making informed breeding decisions. Having documented health history across multiple generations gives us more information to work with than simply evaluating the parents alone. What about breathing and airway structure? This is especially important to us as pug breeders. Chub Cub has visibly open nares, which is a positive structural characteristic. Narrow or stenotic nostrils can increase resistance to airflow and make breathing more difficult. We also place considerable importance on the history of the dogs behind our puppies. Based on the maternal family's structural history and the characteristics we see in this lineage, we believe Chub Cub has a favorable likelihood of having a more functional airway structure, including a lower likelihood of an excessively elongated soft palate. An elongated soft palate can partially obstruct the airway and contribute to Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS). However, we want to be transparent: open nares do not guarantee a clear airway, and an elongated soft palate cannot be ruled out by appearance or pedigree alone. These are characteristics we consider through family history, physical structure, and appropriate veterinary evaluations. We never promise a puppy will be free of BOAS or future respiratory concerns. Our philosophy is simple: We aren't just breeding for what looks good today. We're making decisions with the next generation in mind. Chub Cub represents the continued development of our program, combining established international bloodlines with an emphasis on improving health, structure, and temperament for the future of the breed. If you're looking for an AKC Pug and appreciate knowing the thought and research behind the pedigree, we'd love to introduce you to Chub Cub!
