Original breeder

Pros

Combines the Bernese Mountain Dog's legendary family temperament with the Poodle's trainability and low-shed coat

Three size categories (Standard, Mini, Tiny) with the Standard offering the most predictable Bernese temperament expression

American Bernedoodle breeders have developed some of the most rigorous health testing in the designer dog market given the Bernese's cancer prevalence

Striking tricolor coat pattern in many individuals — the Bernese markings in a soft, low-shed texture

Cons

Cancer is the leading cause of death in Bernese Mountain Dogs — this significantly shapes the Bernedoodle's lifespan unpredictability, particularly in Standard size individuals

Lifespan varies dramatically by size: Standard Bernedoodles average 7-12 years; Tiny Bernedoodles may reach 14-18 years

The premium price ($2,000-$5,000) reflects demand rather than guaranteed health outcomes — health testing documentation is essential

Coat requires professional grooming every 6-8 weeks; the Bernedoodle's dense fleece mats faster than many owners anticipate
