I like my perch: your lap, warm and steady, where I can curl my soft black-and-white fluff into a neat little loaf and survey the whole room like it belongs to me, which, honestly, it does. My coat is long and plush, the kind people can't help but reach out and touch, black patches drifting into white like someone painted me while daydreaming, and underneath all that fluff is a proper little Chihuahua face—round head, dark watchful eyes, the kind of expression that makes you wonder just how much I understand. Probably everything. I take my time with things. I'll watch the other puppies doing their zoomies and think, that looks exhausting, before settling my chin back down on your knee with a small, contented sigh. I'm not shy, I'm not scared of anything—I've just got nothing to prove.
