Pros
The most comprehensively health-tested designer dog in America — ALAA membership requires extensive OFA and DNA testing from all breeding dogs
True low-allergy fleece coat in most individuals — the result of multi-generation selection rather than first-generation doodle chance
Australian Labradoodle Association of America (ALAA) standards create accountability and transparency among US breeders
Three recognized sizes (Standard, Medium, Miniature) with predictable coat type from reputable ALAA breeders
Cons
Legitimate ALAA-registered Australian Labradoodle puppies are among the most expensive designer dogs in America ($2,000-$4,500+)
Growing market has produced significant numbers of 'Australian Labradoodle' litters that do not meet ALAA standards — verifying true AL lineage requires research
Coat requires professional grooming every 6-8 weeks regardless of size
High drive for human interaction — not suitable for households where the dog is alone for extended periods
