Description
Litter of 2 Catahoula Leopard Dog × European Golden Retriever puppies in New Brunswick, NJ
Charming is the calm, handsome, ingenious one. He's highly intelligent and thinks outside the box when it comes to problem solving and creativity, but he actually prefers to be pretty chill and well behaved. Charming is the kind of companion who would be happy to spend all day doing absolutely nothing - sunbathing, sprawling on the couch, tossing a toy up in the air, people-watching, etc. but, he's fully capable of going running, hiking, kayaking - you name it! He is adventure-ready at a moment's notice, if you invite him along. If you're an active person who is periodically sedentary, this is the right balance of adventure and couch potato in one dog. If you're looking for a companion that can keep up with you on an impromptu off-road mountain bike excursion, or an excitingly rugged hike, but also need a dog who won't cause chaos in your home when work or weather prevents you from going outside, Charming is a perfect fit. He is fully crate trained, house broken to our house, leash broken, and has been taught actual manners. Charming grew up around young children, other dogs of both genders, cats, and even chickens and ducks. Charming has only ever known house life (he has never been kenneled). We have had him since birth. He is used to sleeping in his crate at night, though you can change that if desired. Charming does not have any bad habits (no barking, digging, chewing, etc.), though he would alert to danger (a burgular, for example) with his booming voice if the situation presented itself. He is not neutered, and you're welcome to leave him intact, however, I can bring him to get it done before he goes home if you would like to pay for the procedure ($320). I would be happy to keep him during the short recovery period, if that is something you rather not have to figure out yourself. He is being sold as a pet/companion. He's used to eating dinner in his crate at bedtime, and likes to eat politely without scarfing it down. He's great around our kids (our youngest is 7) and really enjoys the company of children. Charming gets along with other dogs. He gets along with both males and females; he doesn't seem to have a preference. Charming is great in the car, and has the ability to go on runs, hikes, and all sorts of high-stamina activities, however, he is also perfectly content just lounging around just hanging out doing nothing. Charming is a hybrid between a European Golden Retriever and a Catahoula Leopard Dog. All four of his grandparents are registered, fully health tested (OFA Hips, Elbows, Eyes, Heart, Shoulders, Patellas, Dentition, Embark - happy to provide OFA links), and are top quality examples of their breed. This was an accidental breeding between two breeding programs reaching for excellence. You know that saying, "Man plans, God laughs"? Yep. God decided that we needed to be bestowed with this unique combination. Hybrids do have quite the advantage, though - hybrid vigor makes the offspring of two different breeds superior in every way. Longer life spans, stronger immune systems, healthier and stronger than either parent breed (when it comes to the very first outcross). That being said, not every crossbreed is wonderful. You must breed quality to quality in order to end up with quality, and typically you won't find breeders with quality bloodlines doing any sort of crossbreeding. Not all purebred breeders are breeding quality genetics, but you're more likely to find quality genetics from someone who is focusing on improving the breed vs. someone who is focusing on making random "designer hybrids". When we found out that we were about to have this litter, we chose to put a significant amount of time and effort into raising these puppies to be model citizens. With such smart dogs with so much potential, it was more important than ever to bring them up right. We want every family to call us back years down the road to say, "This is hands down the best dog we've ever owned, and there will never be another one like him". We are strong believers in holding on to our puppies until the RIGHT home comes along, no matter how long that takes. Charming is still available because the RIGHT home has not crossed paths with us yet. If Charming resonates with you, feel free to call us or text us to see when a good time is to arrange a call and an in-person visit.
