Description

Taking reservations. Expecting 5-6 cream and shaded cream longhaired dachshund puppies. Females will be between 9-10lbs as adults and males will be between 10-12lbs as adults. It was somewhat difficult to set up this ad without having the puppies first, but you can see their mother (cream) listed, and their father (shaded cream) is the proud guy on the beach. The other two are my older dachshunds. As you can see, we take them on many adventures and believe in giving them a full life because they do not live as long as humans do. We provide them with a good life, happy home, full of toys and trips. It is important to us that they are healthy and as free to be themselves as possible. They are housebroken. They all eat a healthy diet, are well-groomed, go to the vet regularly, get their teeth cleaned in cycles, and are fit (which is of the utmost importance in owning a dachshund because obesity increases health risks) and are able to do just about anything. Like my own dogs, I treat my puppies the same way. They will go to the vet multiple times. They will have age-appropriate vaccinations and will be dewormed. I will spend a lot of time with them, working with them to acclimate them to their new world. They will be taught manners, not just by me, but by my other dogs. They will let you hold their paws to trim their nails, they will like to be picked up and carried, and they will know not to bite. I will provide food and a toy/blanket for them that you can take home with you, to get them started. Since these will be winter babies, I'm working out how to make something warm for them to wear outside to regulate their body temperature. They will be well on their way to being potty trained once they go to their new homes. I take this step extremely seriously and once they start walking, they immediately go into our fenced yard to learn what to do. Visitation is permitted once the puppies start walking. Parents are on premises and would be happy to meet you. You must remove your shoes when entering, and you must wash your hands before handling a puppy. They will be on a very good diet, will be socialized (but not with children as I do not have any), and ready to go home. If I determine one of them needs a bit more work, I will keep them longer. If you are local to me and want to create a stronger bond with your puppy, let me know, and I can also show you how I prepare their food. Nothing is a secret and you are welcome to see how my dogs live and how I participate in raising the puppies. It takes a lot of my time, four full months or longer, to take care of my pregnant dog (who I dote on and cook meals for), going to multiple vet visits from checkups to ailments, to birth the puppies (which is happy and stressful), to stay up all night multiple nights in a row to watch them and make sure I'm there to protect them from anything bad happening, and when they start walking, to teach them the way of life before they leave. I do not breed often, I do not run a puppy mill, and I am not a "backyard breeder." I don't have a website, either, which is why I'm here. I understand how to do all of this, have done this for over 30 years, and I take great care in my dogs' lives. This is more of a hobby of mine, something I find enjoyable to do, and want to share these beautiful, intelligent souls with the people who actually want a long-lived family member. If that is not what you are looking for, please skip my ad. I don't do this for money, but I want to be compensated for the effort I put into my litter. It is a monumental responsibility in my household, and I build my life around the pregnancy, birth, and raising these puppies properly. Of equal importance to me, is that my puppies go to good homes. I don't want them to be locked up in cages all day, neglected, starved, sold, given up to shelters, or put down because of an emergency expense. You have to be able to afford a dog. A contract must be signed. These puppies will be sold as pet-only and are not allowed to be bred. They are not to be resold and if care can no longer be provided, they must be returned to me and not a shelter. They come with a health guarantee listed out in the contract. If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything further, please do get in touch! I look forward to hearing from you!

Pros

AKC's most popular hound breed — combining apartment-friendly size with a genuine hunting dog's tenacity
Three coat varieties (smooth, wirehaired, longhaired) and two sizes (standard and miniature) offer real choice
Long-lived breed — well-cared Dachshunds regularly reach 12-16 years
Vocal watchdog in a small package — highly alert and protective despite modest size

Cons

IVDD (intervertebral disc disease) is the most significant breed health crisis — spinal injury risk is real and lifelong
Stubborn, independent terrier-like character requiring consistent patience in training
Strong prey drive and determined digging instinct — yards must be secured, small pets carefully managed
Housebreaking is notoriously difficult — a consistent crate-training approach from day one is essential
