Goldendoodles are generally fantastic family dogs due to their friendly, affectionate, and social temperament.
Why They Make Great Family Pets
• Affectionate and Gentle: They love human companionship, bond closely with children, and usually display a gentle, patient nature.
• High Intelligence: Thanks to their Golden Retriever and Poodle heritage, they are smart and eager to please, making them relatively easy to train.
• Allergy-Friendly Coats: They typically have low-to-no shedding coats, which is helpful for families with mild pet allergies (though no dog is entirely hypoallergenic).
• Playful Energy: They enjoy an active lifestyle and are wonderful companions for outdoor games, walks, and family adventures.

Pros
The Golden Retriever's legendary family temperament in a compact, allergy-friendly package — the most popular small family dog in America's designer breed market
Low to non-shedding coat in most individuals from multi-generation programs
Compact size (20-35 pounds) makes apartment life feasible without sacrificing the warmth of a Golden Retriever personality
Exceptionally trainable: inherits the Poodle's quick learning and the Golden's desire to please simultaneously
Cons
Among the most expensive designer dogs in America — $2,000-$4,000 is typical from quality breeders; the market's popularity has created many sellers without health testing
Cancer risk from the Golden Retriever parent is a documented long-term concern even in the smaller cross
Coat requires professional grooming every 6-8 weeks regardless of how small the individual is
Separation anxiety is extremely common — both parent breeds are prone to it, and the combination amplifies it
