Basset Hound Puppies for sale in Northumberland County

The Basset Hound is a charming, low-key breed known for its long velvety ears, droopy eyes, and gentle, affectionate nature. Originally descended from the St. Hubert Hound in France, this short-legged scent hound was bred for endurance and tracking small game. Recognized by the AKC in 1885, the Basset Hound became famous in the 20th century for its mournful expression and lovable personality, quickly earning a place as one of America’s most iconic dog breeds. Beneath its slow, deliberate stride lies one of the most powerful noses in the canine world.

Friendly and easygoing, the Basset Hound gets along wonderfully with children, other pets, and families of all types. While not overly active, it benefits from daily walks to maintain a healthy weight and satisfy its natural curiosity. This breed responds best to patient, positive training due to its independent streak. Regular ear cleaning, brushing, and occasional baths keep its coat and skin healthy, while attention to diet and exercise helps prevent obesity. Loyal, affectionate, and irresistibly endearing, the Basset Hound is a devoted companion with timeless appeal.
