The Bernedoodle is a charming designer breed that blends the intelligence of the Poodle with the gentle, loyal nature of the Bernese Mountain Dog. First intentionally bred in Canada in 2003, this affectionate hybrid quickly became a family favorite thanks to its friendly temperament, low-shedding coat, and playful personality. Bernedoodles come in a range of sizes and coat types depending on their Poodle lineage, often featuring thick, wavy fur in black, white, brown, or tri-colour patterns. Their loving disposition makes them especially well-suited for families with children.
Bernedoodles are also available in several generations—such as F1, F1b, F1bb, and F2b—which influence coat texture, shedding, and allergy-friendliness. F1 Bernedoodles are a 50/50 mix and typically have wavy coats with minimal shedding. F1b Bernedoodles, bred from an F1 and a Poodle, are about 75% Poodle and tend to have curlier, more hypoallergenic coats. F1bb Bernedoodles (around 87.5% Poodle) are among the most allergy-friendly, featuring tight curls and very low shedding. F2b Bernedoodles, a cross between an F1 and an F1b, offer a consistent low- to non-shedding coat and are a strong choice for families with moderate to severe allergies.
Intelligent, sociable, and eager to please, the Bernedoodle thrives on interaction and routine. They enjoy outdoor adventures as much as quiet family time and respond well to positive reinforcement training. Regular brushing helps maintain their beautiful coat and keeps shedding minimal. Balanced in energy and temperament, the Bernedoodle is a loyal and easygoing companion that brings warmth and joy to any household.
