The Boxador, also called the Boxer Lab Mix or Laboxer, is a designer cross between the Boxer and the Labrador Retriever, two of America's most popular family breeds. The combination produces an athletic, people-focused dog that blends the Boxer's playful, protective streak with the Lab's famously friendly, eager-to-please outlook. As a hybrid, the Boxador is not registered with the AKC, though both parent breeds are, and the cross is acknowledged by hybrid registries such as the American Canine Hybrid Club. Looks vary from puppy to puppy, with some favoring the square-jawed Boxer and others the broader-headed Lab.
Boxadors are large, energetic dogs, with most adults standing 23 to 25 inches tall and weighing between 50 and 80 pounds. They are loyal, affectionate and generally excellent with children and other pets when socialized early, and many make naturally watchful family guardians. Their short coat is easy to care for, needing just weekly brushing, though shedding picks up seasonally. Expect to provide at least an hour of vigorous exercise a day, plenty of training games for that quick mind, and a securely fenced yard for safe play. With sound care, the Boxador's lifespan typically runs 10 to 12 years, and they stay famously playful well into adulthood.
