Generations such as F1, F1b, F2, F3, and F4 Cockapoos differ mainly in coat predictability and genetic makeup. F1 Cockapoos are a 50/50 mix and can vary in coat type. F1b Cockapoos (typically around 75% Poodle) are often bred for a more predictable, lower-shedding coat. Later generations like F2, F3, and F4 — produced by breeding two Cockapoos together — tend to offer more consistency in appearance, including the popular teddy-bear look.
Cockapoos usually inherit the Poodle’s intelligence and the Cocker Spaniel’s gentle, affectionate temperament. Their soft, wavy or curly coats come in many colours and require regular grooming to prevent matting, and their ears benefit from routine cleaning.
