The Jack Russell Terrier — also known as the Jack, JRT, or Jack Russell — is a spirited and energetic small breed originally bred to help hunters drive foxes from their dens. Compact and athletic, Jack Russells have smooth, rough, or broken coats that are primarily white with brown or black markings. They are highly intelligent but independent, requiring firm and consistent training, along with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. Without it, they may become bored or destructive.
