Also known as the Golden Cavalier or Comfort Retriever, the Miniature Golden Retriever is a friendly, playful, and affectionate crossbreed between the Golden Retriever and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. These medium-sized dogs are known for their cheerful personalities, gentle temperaments, and adaptability, making them excellent family companions.

The Miniature Golden Retriever was developed in the United States in the early 2000s during the rise of designer dog breeding. The goal was to create a smaller version of the Golden Retriever that maintained its friendly nature while being more manageable in size and energy. These dogs are recognized by several hybrid registries, including the Designer Dog Kennel Club (DDKC) and the Dog Registry of America (DRA). Miniature Golden Retrievers usually have a wavy or slightly curly coat in shades of gold, cream, or red. They often resemble their Golden Retriever parent in shape and coloring but may inherit the Cavalier’s shorter muzzle, floppy ears, and slightly smaller frame.

Miniature Golden Retrievers are affectionate, social, and eager to please. They are great with children and other pets, thriving in homes where they can be part of daily family life. These dogs are intelligent and respond well to positive reinforcement, though they can experience separation anxiety if left alone too long. Regular exercise — such as walks, fetch, or playtime — helps keep them happy and balanced. The breed is generally healthy, but owners should watch for conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, cataracts, and allergies. Grooming is relatively simple: brushing several times per week prevents tangles and reduces shedding, and their ears should be checked regularly for signs of infection. Miniature Golden Retrievers shed moderately year-round and are not hypoallergenic, but their affectionate and adaptable nature makes them one of the most lovable designer breeds for active, caring families.
