The Pomchi emerged in the late 1990s or early 2000s, likely bred for people wanting a compact, cute, and loving companion dog. While their exact origin is unclear, Pomchis quickly gained popularity for combining the intelligence and fluffiness of the Pomeranian with the alertness and sass of the Chihuahua. Their coat can be long or short, coming in a wide variety of colors including sable, brown, blue, tan, black, and many combinations of these. Small and alert, Pomchis have expressive faces, perky ears, and a confident stance that mirrors their lively temperament.

Pomchis are full of energy and enjoy being involved in all aspects of their owners’ lives. They are affectionate and loyal, often forming a particularly strong bond with one person. While they get plenty of activity just by following their humans around, they also benefit from daily playtime or short walks to keep them fit. Generally healthy, Pomchis can inherit some conditions from their parent breeds, such as dental disease, cataracts, or hypothyroidism. Their grooming needs depend on coat length—those with longer fur should be brushed at least twice a week to manage shedding and prevent tangles. Regular ear cleaning and nail trimming are also essential. Pomchis shed moderately, with heavier shedding in spring and fall, and are not hypoallergenic. Despite their small size, their big hearts and joyful personalities make them a delightful addition to any loving home.
