The Redbone Coonhound was recognized by the United Kennel Club (UKC) in 1902 and later by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 2010. These medium-sized dogs have muscular builds, long ears, and expressive hazel eyes that give them a sweet, soulful look.

Redbone Coonhounds are sociable and adaptable dogs that get along well with children, strangers, and other pets when properly socialized. They enjoy tracking scents, which is instinctive to their hunting heritage, so they should always be leashed or fenced securely during outdoor time. Training is generally easy thanks to their eagerness to please, though short, engaging sessions work best. Healthwise, Redbones are a sturdy breed but can be prone to hip dysplasia and ear infections due to their floppy ears. Their short, glossy coat requires only weekly brushing and occasional baths to stay clean and shiny. Regular ear cleaning is essential to prevent infection.
