Toy Fox Terrier Puppies for sale in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The Toy Fox Terrier is a lively and affectionate small dog originally bred for rat catching but now beloved as a cheerful lap companion. With their bright personality, family-friendly nature, and minimal grooming needs, Toy Fox Terriers make wonderful pets for those who can keep up with their playful energy and sharp intelligence.

Developed from the larger Smooth Fox Terrier, the Toy Fox Terrier was first bred by English farmers to hunt rats and small pests. Over time, smaller dogs were favored for their agility and spirited temperament, and in 1936, the United Kennel Club (UKC) officially recognized them as a separate breed. Later, in 2003, the American Kennel Club (AKC) followed suit. Compact and athletic, Toy Fox Terriers stand under a foot tall and sport smooth, glossy coats in color combinations like tricolor, white and tan, or white and black. Despite their size, they have bold, confident personalities. Some are energetic adventurers, while others are calm, affectionate companions — but all share a deep devotion to their owners. Smart and eager to please, they are quick learners but can be stubborn, so short, engaging training sessions work best. Great with children and other pets, Toy Fox Terriers are adaptable to various households. Their short coat requires only occasional brushing and baths, making grooming simple. Daily walks and indoor play sessions keep them happy and healthy, though their strong prey drive means they should stay leashed outdoors. With their charm, loyalty, and intelligence, the Toy Fox Terrier is a delightful mix of spirited fun and loving companionship.
