The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is a cheerful, affectionate, and intelligent breed known for its short legs, long body, and big personality. Originally bred as a cattle and sheep herder, this sturdy little dog combines agility, courage, and charm. Corgis are active and social companions that love being part of family life, always eager to work or play alongside their humans. Their agreeable temperament and expressive faces have made them one of the most beloved small herding breeds in the world.
Originating in Pembrokeshire, Wales, as early as the 1100s, the breed’s ancestry is believed to trace back to either Swedish cattle dogs brought by Vikings or dogs brought to Wales by Flemish weavers. The Pembroke and Cardigan Corgis were originally considered the same breed until they were officially separated in 1934, when the American Kennel Club also recognized the Pembroke Welsh Corgi. With its upright ears, fox-like expression, and weather-resistant double coat — typically in red, sable, fawn, or tri-color — the Corgi is both hardy and adorable. Lively, loyal, and intelligent, Pembrokes are excellent family pets and watchdogs who love having a job to do. They need regular exercise to stay fit and prevent weight gain, and daily brushing to manage their shedding. With their bold heart and affectionate spirit, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi brings energy, loyalty, and joy to any household.
