Navy Vet. Single mom of 2 amazing kids and 10 amazing AmStaff dogs. One daughter is studying for Real Estate my other won NC State AAU Silver Elite 2026 with an AA score of 38.05. 1st place on bars and beam 2nd on vault and 3rd on floor. I love this breed!!! They are truly gentle giants. Great with kids. They, once fully grown are very mellow unless they are greeting u back home. They love their owners...follow u like a shadow .. privacy not an option...lol. They love to sit on you no matter how big or small the area u decide to sit in. They prefer to be with you at all times....kind of as if they are keeping an eye out for you. Great with kids..hence the "Nanny Dog" nick name. If you only own 1 from puppy stage then a cat is ok....but if you have more than 1 I would caution against cat ownership or this breed as they do have a pack mental. They are very intelligent, strong willed - sometimes very stubborn. Training MUST be consistent and rewarded. They love challenges...they are a working breed so they do get bored if not exercised! The good thing about this breed the excersize doesn't have to be hour/hrs long...15-30 mins a day (when adult age is reached) is all they need to achieve 1 of their favorite pass time - sleep! The other??? Food. Heat and cold intolerant. So do not leave them outdoors especially if no shade is available. They have strong jaws and will chew through wire fence. Their weight can range between 80-100 lbs.. depending on excersize and food. They stand almost as tall as a Pitt..but most are a bit shorter and a lot stockier.
