History: Although its two parent breeds originated in Europe, the Affenpoo originated in the United States and was developed by crossing an Affenpinscher with a Poodle. While it's difficult to pinpoint the exact date that the first Affenpoo appeared, it is believed that the breed was likely developed during the 1990s. Today, Affenpoos are bred by crossing the Affenpinscher and Miniature Poodle, Affenpinscher and Toy Poodle, or two Affenpoos. The size of an Affenpoo is very dependent on the size of the parent Poodle cross. The Affenpoo is recognized by several hybrid dog clubs including the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC) and the Designer Breed Registry (DBR).

Temperament: Intelligent, energetic, and affectionate to their owners, Affenpoos are little dogs with big personalities. They are fairly easy to train, making them a good choice for first-time or novice dog owners. The Affenpoo is a social dog that does not like being alone, so they're not well-suited for being by themselves for prolonged periods of time. Like the Affenpinscher and Poodle, the Affenpoo has a tendency to be a bit stubborn, so a firm hand when it comes to training is key. Like Poodles, Affenpoos have a protective nature, which makes them great guard dogs. While it's difficult to predict the exact temperament of a hybrid dog, it's safe to say that the Affenpoo is full of many great, lovable personality traits.
