West Highland Terrier Puppies for sale in New London, Wisconsin

The West Highland White Terrier — also known as Westie, Westy, Poltalloch Terrier, Roseneath Terrier, or White Roseneath Terrier — is a spirited and lovable small breed whose snowy white coat and playful demeanor melt hearts everywhere. Intelligent, alert, and full of character, Westies adapt well to homes big or small while bringing non-stop energy and charm. Their friendly personality and confident nature make them cherished companions and beloved family members.

Originating in Scotland, Westies share their roots with other terriers like the Skye, Cairn, and Scottish Terrier, all bred to hunt small prey. Though the breed’s formal recognition began in the early 1900s — first under names like Poltalloch and Roseneath — the modern West Highland White Terrier became established by 1909. Compact and sturdy, Westies have dark eyes, pointed ears, and a thick white double coat that requires regular grooming and hand-stripping. Outgoing, affectionate, and bold, this breed thrives on family companionship and daily play, though early socialization helps manage their terrier drive around other dogs. They respond best to patient, positive training and enjoy an hour of activity each day to keep both body and mind engaged. With light shedding year-round, the Westie’s maintenance is manageable yet rewarding. Bright, courageous, and endlessly engaging, the West Highland White Terrier remains a timeless favorite among small breeds.
