History: The Bernedoodle is a lovable cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. A relatively new breed, the Bernedoodle didn't first appear until the early 2000s. In fact, a breeder from a kennel located in Ontario, Canada claims to be the first person to intentionally breed the Bernedoodle in 2003. However, it is possible that the mix existed prior. Since then, the Bernedoodle's popularity has taken off, and the breed is now a popular designer dog that is registered by the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC), the Designer Canine Registry (DCR), and several other dog clubs for hybrid and designer breeds.

Temperament: Bernedoodles are affectionate, happy-go-lucky dogs that are loving with their families and great with children. No matter whether a Bernedoodle favors its Poodle parent or Bernese Mountain Dog parent, it will likely grow up being a well-rounded, playful dog. These dogs are very loyal and devoted, and they are at their happiest when spending time with their human "pack." That said, it's important to note that Bernedoodles do not tolerate being left alone for extended periods of time, and they may experience separation anxiety if left by themselves for too long. Bernedoodles are quite intelligent, so training them usually isn't difficult. However, it's possible for a Bernedoodle to inherit some of the Bernese Mountain Dog's stubbornness, so training should be firm, yet kind.
