History: The Miniature Bernese Mountain Dog is more than simply a small Bernese Mountain Dog. In fact, many Bernese Mountain Dog Minis are actually a product of crossbreeding a Bernese Mountain Dog with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. It's no secret that Bernese Mountain Dogs are big dogs. So, in an attempt to create a smaller version of the dog, breeders began to cross the Bernese with a Cavalier, a much smaller dog with similar looks to a Bernese. The result was a Miniature Bernese Mountain Dog. It's difficult to say when the first Mini Bernese Mountain Dog first appeared, but it was likely during the late 20th century.

Temperament: Miniature Bernese Mountain Dogs are affectionate, loyal, and intelligent. They're faithful friends and get along well with children, but can sometimes be aloof around strangers. Mini Bernese Mountain Dogs are fairly easy to train, as they love to please their owners and are quite intelligent. Like the purebred Bernese Mountain Dog, the Bernese Mountain Dog Mini is extremely family-oriented and thrives on being around its human "pack." While not aggressive, Miniature Bernese Mountain Dogs can be very protective of their human companions and will typically have no trouble jumping into action if they sense that one of their loved ones is in danger.
